There have been demonstrations against the increase in the number of working days. The new law applies to the public sector and official services, banking, public services, banks and some private companies that work 24 hours a day.
The Government of the Liberal Government of Kiriakos Mitsotakis defends that the now contested law will increase the productivity and will address the problems of unpaid overtime and the undeclared work.
Unions argue that these are just excuses to end the traditional five-day work week and to make go back rights conquered since the end of World War II.
