Baku Shipyard President Elshad Nuriyev explains how the shipyard is driving Azerbaijan’s industrial growth and national development.
President of the Baku Shipyard, Elshad Nuriyev, underlines the strategic importance of the shipyard within the industrial ecosystem of Azerbaijan and its significant contribution to the country’s development. A notable example is the Khankendi vessel, built at the Baku shipyard, which played a crucial role in the subsea operations of phase 2 of the Shah Deniz project, today one of the main suppliers of natural gas to Europe.
Upon his appointment, Nuriyev introduced three key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve the shipyard’s operations. The first KPI focuses on advancing the production process through technology, particularly with the incorporation of augmented reality welding, to increase efficiency, precision and safety in training. The second aims to improve the qualification of the workforce by collaborating with local academic institutions such as ADA University and vocational training schools to improve efficiency and qualification levels.
The third is based on environmental sustainability, with initiatives that include the use of bicycles for internal transportation, the installation of solar panels and the maintenance of an efficient water treatment system that also benefits neighboring factories. Particular emphasis is also placed on research and development, particularly in the areas of human-ship interfaces and smart sensor technology.
Nuriyev emphasizes the importance of teamwork to achieve these goals and praises the collective efforts of the shipyard’s engineers, workers and support staff. He states that the coordinated development of people, technology and facilities is essential to achieve the set goals and establish the Baku Shipyard as a center of innovative engineering.
