At least 37,925 people have been killed in Gaza since the war began on October 7 and 87,141 have been injured.
Palestinians displaced from the eastern side of the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis continued to flee to other areas of the city on Tuesday after the evacuation order issued by Israel on Monday, a possible sign that Israeli troops could soon return a la zone.
Israel concluded an offensive in Khan Yunis earlier this year and withdrew most of his forces. Monday’s evacuation order affects some 250,000 Palestinians who will now try to seek refuge in an area declared “safe” by Israel.
However, on Tuesday, an Israeli attack on a house within a safe zone killed at least 12 people, including nine members of the same family. Some of the dead had just fled Khan Yunis hours earlier, Asmaa Salim, a relative who lived in the attacked building in Deir al-Balah, told The Associated Press. The Israeli military had no immediate comment on the attack.
UN: Evacuation will only increase suffering
The spokesman for the UN secretary general said that his colleagues in the region They were deeply worried due to the recent eviction order issued by Israel.
“The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs emphasizes that an evacuation of such a massive scale will only increase the suffering of civilians and will increase even more humanitarian needs“said Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the secretary general.
“People are left with the impossible option of having to relocate, some probably for the second or even third timein areas that barely have space or services, or stay in areas where they know the fighting will take place,” he added.
