Modi criticizes Russian invasion of Ukraine after meeting with President Putin

Russia has had important ties with India since the Cold War, and New Delhi’s importance as a key trading partner has grown in recent times.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modimet with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, this Tuesday and spoke to him about pain of the death of innocent children and the need to ensure peace.

The leaders gathered to deepen ties between their countries; Modi said India was ready to support restoring peace in Ukraine.

“Your Excellency, whether it is a war, a fight or a terrorist attack, every person who believes in humanity, when a life is lost, feels pain. When innocent children are killed, when we see innocent children die, then our hearts hurt. And that pain is very horrible,” Modi said.

India gets more than 40% of its oil from Russia

Modi’s comments came a day after a deadly Russian attack in kyivin which bombings hit a children’s hospital and killed dozens of people.

Russia has had important ties with India since the Cold War, and the importance of New Delhi as key business partner has grown in recent times.

China and India have become two key buyers of russian oil after the sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies who closed most Western markets to Russian exports.
