To avoid this environmental catastrophe caused by climate changenon-governmental organizations of tthree balkan nations they launched the Forum for the Development of the Prespa Region.
Accelerate climate action plans
“The non-governmental organizations of the three countries want to call on local institutions and authorities to accelerate action plans“said Ljupco Krstevski of the ONG macedonia Eurothink.
“A lot of research has been done, many strategic documents have been approved, but your application is missing and the citizens record it better than anyone else and hope that the three States take urgent measures as soon as possible“.
At the Forum, representatives of the Lake Constance Foundation They narrated their experience in management of an ecosystem shared by three countries. Switzerland, Germany and Austria signed a political agreement in the sixties to pprotect Lake Constance.
“Civil society cannot wait for some politicians who are far away, in the capitals, to have the mentality that taking care of the climate is important, so the people here and the mayors, if they realize that it is important and can influence higher level politicians to enforce the agreements,” he said. Lake Constance and Lake Prepsna are the only places in Europe whose waters shared by three countries.
