Images released of the accident showed that the train’s engine was on fire.
A train traveling from the capital of Czech RepublicPrague, to the Hungarian capital, Budapest, has collided with a bus in southern Slovakia on Thursday, leaving at least four dead and five injured, authorities have reported.
More of 100 people were on board of the Eurocity train when the accident occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. (local time) in the town of Nové Zámky, police and the Slovak railway company ZSSK said. The dead and injured were confirmed by the rescue services of Slovakia.
Images released of the accident showed that the train engine was on fire. The bus was severely damaged, according to railroad officials. Interior Minister Matus Sutai Estok was on his way to the scene on Thursday afternoon.
The main railway line that connects Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, with Budapest was closed until further notice. The more than 100 passengers stranded aboard the crashed train were transported by buses to the town of Štúrovo, on the border with Hungary, ZSSK said.
