Las pornographic platforms Pornhub, Stripchat and XVideos have received additional questions about the measures they take to mitigate risks in order to protect minors online, as reportedlast Thursday the European Comission.

The Commission asks more details Over the age verification mechanisms used by adult content platforms, required by the Digital Services Law (‘DSA’). In addition, the EU Executive also wants to know what companies did to prevent the spread of illegal content and gender violence.

The Commission also wants more detailed information on the internal organization of companies to ensure compliance with platform regulations. The DSA requires them, for example, to have compliance officerswhich must guarantee that all systemic risks indicated in the regulations are identified and that they are adequately reported on.

Pornhub, Stripchat and XVideos now have until July 4 to provide more details. The Commission can impose fines for incorrect, incomplete or misleading information and ultimately impose sanctions.

A sector marked by deregulation

The questions come after last December the platforms were designated very large online platforms (‘VLOP’) under the DSA. They resorted, and the legal process continues its course.

The three pornographic platforms presented their first risk assessment report to the Commission at the end of April, as required by platform regulations. The designation it was considered an important step in Brussels’ attempt to take crackdown on notoriously unregulated sectoramid growing concerns over lax age verification mechanisms and the circulation of child sexual abuse material and revenge porn generated by AI.

The DSA imposes stricter standards at companies that have more than 45 million users on average in the EU. Among the largest VLOPs are YouTube, Booking.com and Facebook.
