The head of the European Commission will not meet with MEPs this Wednesday, as planned, to discuss the formation of her new team, parliamentary sources informed ‘Euronews’.
Ursula von der Leyen has delayed until next week presentation of his new team of commissioners and the political areas they will direct, as confirmed on Tuesday by three parliamentary sources.
Von der Leyen was scheduled to meet on Wednesday with the presidents of the political factions of the European Parliament to discuss the formation of its team, made up of 26 commissioners who will lead the Executive of the European Union (EU) for the next five years.
The president already will not attend that meetingwhich indicates that the process of appointing the College of Commissioners could take longer than expected.
The delay could be due, in part, to last minute change of the Slovenian candidateformer diplomat Marta Kos, announced on Monday by the Government of Ljubljana, but which must be ratified by the country’s Parliament.
The change came after Von der Leyen will put pressure on a handful of governments of the EU to replace their male candidates with women to ensure gender parity on your new team.
A Commission spokesperson stated last Friday that the meeting scheduled for Wednesday was conceived as a “exchange of views” about the “ongoing work to establish the new College”, suggesting that he would not propose the definitive structure of your team.
Von der Leyen is expected to reveal to your team members and its functions during next week’s European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg.
