Tyson Fury feels he deserves to beat Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch in Saudi Arabia.
Usyk won 116-112 on all three scorecards. But the Englishman said his opponent beat him by split decision in May. Received a gift
“I feel like I won both fights. I knew I had to knock him out in order to make a decision. But it’s boxing and it happens,” Fury said at the post-fight press conference. “I have no doubt that I will win the battle.”
Fury, who knows his boxing history points to two close fights between Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks in the 1980s. Spinks moved up from light heavyweight. Defeat Holmes twice in close combat. And Holmes swears he was robbed both times.
“I’m pretty confident,” Fury said, reflecting on advancing to the final against the former cruiserweight king. Oleksandr Usyk “I think I will win another fight. I think I got Larry. Holmes again
“I think I won both fights. But then I came home again with a record 2 defeats. So there’s not much I can do about it. Fight with all your heart and do your best. But I always believed that until the day I died I won that battle.
“I walked in front all night. Glides down to the body and head. Sometimes it’s hard to score. I won’t cry over spilled milk. I know boxing. I’ve been in it all my life. You can’t change any decision, but I’ve always found it a bit difficult to do, not a lot, but when you’re not knocked out. This is what happened You cannot guarantee victory.”
Fury took a moment to thank those who had come to support him and added: “We move on,” but he would not promise whether he would continue fighting in 2025.
The 36-year-old has been in the news about his boxing match with Anthony Joshua for a long time, but asked fans: On whether we’ll see him again next year, Fury replied: ‘You might, but maybe not.’ We’ll talk about that next year.”
In their first fight in May, Usyk famously defeated Fury in the ninth round. But last night there was no drama.
“In the battle there Don’t hurt me even once,” Fury added. “But it is what it is. I know what happened, that’s all.”
Asked what he’ll do next, Fury replied: “Go home and have a great Christmas.” I’ve been away for 12 weeks, it’s been a long time, I’m going home and enjoying it. In my opinion (it is) a Christmas present. It’s not Oleksandr’s fault, congratulations to him and his team. Congratulations to everyone.”
