The lifeless body of a pilot has been found after the French fighter crashed at the 80th anniversary event of World War II’s Operation Dragoon in Provence.
Last Friday, August 16, a tragic plane crash hit the coast of Le Lavandou, in the department of Var, France. A jet plane, Magister Reformationbelonging to an association, crashed into the sea during an air show, claiming the life of its pilot. That jet plane was used by the French Patroille from 1964 to 1980.
The Var prefecture confirmed the discovery of the pilot’s bodyborn in 1959, according to prosecutor Samuel Finielz. The accident occurred around 5:00 p.m., during an air show off the coast of Le Lavandou.
A was deployed rescue operation which involved the maritime gendarmerie, firefighters and the navy after the impact at sea. This event coincides almost in time with the accident of two fighter pilots who had an accident last Thursday.
The Toulon prosecutor has opened an investigation to determine the causes of the accident. As a safety measure, navigation and nautical activities have been prohibited in the area of the incident until further notice.
Impact on the commemorative event
The air show was part of the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of Operation Dragoonan important military action of the Second World War in Provence. Following the accident, the Patrouille de France, which was scheduled to participate, canceled its aerial presentation.
Local authorities, including the prefect of Var, the maritime prefect and the mayor of Le Lavandou, have expressed their condolences to the pilot’s family deceased.
