No deal has been signed for Frenchman Bruno Surez to rematch Jamie Munguia, although negotiations between the two camps are ongoing.

Surez stunned super middleweight Munguia on December 14, landing a great right hand to score the 2024 upset of the year as the big underdog, Mexican Munguia, was in the Controlling and flooring the surface, the flexible Frenchman can drive through with a hard right that is also a knockout contender of the year.

Team Surace, who are currently in London to accept The Ring awards, say they have been offered a return with Munguia in April. But there has been no confirmation, despite speculation that the tournament will return to Mexico on April 12.

“You shouldn’t listen to rumours,” Abdel Ashour said. “We didn’t sign anything. We are still in negotiations. They offered us a contract for April.”

Surace told BoxingScene after the Munguia victory that he knew a victory in Mexico could change his life.

“I don’t think about the people who don’t believe in me. My main thought is about people believing in me,” he said, improving to 26-0-2 (5 KO).

Munguia, who came away from Canelo Alvarez at the start of the year and defeated John Ryder and Eric Bazinyan in a chaotic 2024, also dropped to 44-2 (35 KOs).
