He Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation (Rosstat) has completely stopped publishing data on the production of petroleum products in the country.

Los media alerted about this fact after the publication, on August 28, of the report on the dynamics of the industrial production in Russia in the January-July period.

The list of statistical data does not include information on monthly volumes of diesel productionfuel oil for ovens, liquefied propane and butane, coal coke and semi-coke. The report nor does it provide data on the production of stable gas condensate.

“By decision of the Russian Government”

The agency specifies in the report that “information on the production of petroleum products is not published by decision of the Russian Government”.

The Russian edition of ‘Kommersant‘ has asked the Ministry of Energy for explanations, which responded that “often the statistical data on fuel production published by Rosstat can be used to exert unjustified pressure about the market.”

Observers note that production data disappeared amid the recent Ukrainian attacks on oil deposits that supply the Russian Army and from one explosion at the Omsk refinerywhich caused it to lose 41% of its capacity, according to Reuters. This strategically important facility produces one-tenth of all Russia’s gasoline and diesel.

At the end of May, Rosstat classified gasoline production statistics in Russia. The Ministry of Energy then said that the data had been closed in the interest of security due to the “geopolitical situation”.

On August 1st, Russia resumed the ban on export motor gasolinewhich will last until the end of the year.
