Skye Nicholson holds the WBC featherweight world title and wants to fight another champion to add more belts to her collection. The problem? Amanda Serrano holds two more world titles (WBA and WBO) and is also a line queen. But Nicholson felt that Serrano is not interested in defending her throne.

“Serrano, immediately after (losing last week’s rematch to Katie Taylor) claimed he was still the featherweight champion. But you haven’t fought at 126 in over a year. You have no plans to fight at 126 again anytime soon.” Nicolson said in an interview with Boxing Social’s Louis Hart.– “You are already talking about this trilogy. (To Taylor) It’s not fair to keep claiming that. and hold those belts And don’t protect those belts. When it became clear that there was a group of girls trying to fight for those belts.”

Nicholson (12-0, 1 KO) is the former WBC interim featherweight champion and is in position to challenge Serrano for the world title. But Serrano resigned from his position at the end of last year. And Nicholson won the full championship in April 2024 with a major decision over Sarah Mahfoud.

since then Nicholson then defended his WBC title by knocking out Dyanna Vargas in July. and a unanimous decision over Raven Chapman in October. Her next fight May clash with Tiara Brown

“Obviously I wanted to be united. I want to go without arguments,” said Nicholson. “Yes, it’s frustrating. It is cumbersome and annoying. But at the same time I understand that it’s a business. And I understand the business perspective of why they do what they do. I understand But at the same time it was like, ‘Come on, you need to take the belt off or defend it.’ You can’t claim to be the champion and not actually defend it.’”

Nicholson said she would rather fight Serrano for those two championships than win any more vacant belts.

“I want to prove that I am the best featherweight in the division,” said the 29-year-old from Australia.

That label belonged to Serrano before she became the undisputed featherweight champion in February 2023 with a victory over Erika Cruz Hernandez, but Serrano’s last appearance at featherweight was in October 2023. With her closure, Danila Ramos Serrano was supposed to face Nina Meinke in March. But the fight had to be canceled at the last moment when hair product got into her eyes and affected her vision.

Serrano is no longer in question, the WBC belt now belongs to Nicolson and Meinke won the vacant IBF title in September with a majority decision over Daniela Romina Bermudez.

Not only does Nicolson believe Serrano won’t give her a chance, but if Serrano returns to 126 again, it will be against Meinke.

“Hopefully I can fight Nina Meinke first because then there’s only one fight she can do. (and tried again) with no problems,” Nicolson said.

But Nicolson also claims Serrano wanted their fight to last 12 three-minute rounds, instead of the 10 two-minute rounds normally required in women’s boxing. Serrano is one of several female fighters calling for this option, however the WBC opposes allowing women to fight for the same amount of time as male champions, that is. Serrano’s stated reasons To be released from the WBC belt at the end of 2023.

Serrano’s only fight with 12 three-minute rounds was her win over Ramos.

Nicholson said she was happy to fight with longer rounds and land more shots. Although she prefers the current standard.

“I think it makes women’s boxing exciting. I think that makes it interesting. But at the same time, 12-3 suits my style more than anyone else,” she said. “I’m a patient fighter. I take my time, I set my traps, I choose my shots well. I control the distance I control the rhythm of the fight. If I had more time, I would have more time to make you look stupid.”
