The expulsions come a week after a deadly knife attack in the city of Solingen, which left three dead and eight injured.
The German Chancellor Olaf Scholzhas qualified the return of 28 Afghan citizens to Afghanistan a “clear sign” that criminals born abroad will not be spared deportation.
A government spokesman said Friday that Afghan citizens were all “convicted felons”but did not respond to a request for comment to clarify his crimes.
“We have prepared this carefully without saying much about it because a project like this is only successful if an effort is made, if it is done carefully and with a lot of discretion,” Scholz said.
It is the first time Germany has deported Afghan nationals to their country of origin since that the Taliban returned to power in 2021.
Germany does not maintain diplomatic relations with the group, which forced the Government to work through other means to organize the deportations.
The Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser, declared that The expulsions were a security issue for Germany.

The suspectcalled Issa Al H. by the prosecution, is a Syrian citizen who had requested asylum in Germany.
It was supposed to he was going to be deported to Bulgaria last yearbut apparently disappeared to avoid deportation.
He was detained on suspicion of murder and membership in a terrorist organization, pending further investigation and possible indictment.
The militant group Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack last Friday, without providing evidence. The group said on its Amaq news site that the attacker targeted Christians and that he carried out the assaults “to avenge Muslims in Palestine.”

In June, Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised that the country would again deport criminals from Afghanistan and Syriaafter a knife attack by an Afghan immigrant left a police officer dead and four others injured in Frankfurt.
On Thursday, Faeser announced plans to toughen knife lawsaccording to the German news agency dpa. Along with other governing coalition officials, he also pledged during a press conference to facilitate deportations.
