Russian missiles kill at least seven people in Lviv

The attack on the western Ukrainian city comes a day after the deadliest Russian attack this year, which killed more than 50 people in Poltava.

At least seven people were killed and 35 injured in a Russian missile and drone attack in the city of Lvivin western Ukraine, early this Wednesday, according to local authorities.

Among the dead were a child and a health worker, and others were in critical condition, while more than fifty houses, two medical institutions and two schools were damaged, the mayor of Lviv reported. Andrii Sadovi.

A night attack also injured five people in Krivoy Rog, the Ukrainian president’s hometown Volodímir Zelenskiwhich had already been attacked before.

Zelensky again calls for long-range weapons

Zelensky reacted to the attacks by urging Ukraine’s allies to give kyiv “more reach” to use Western weapons to strike deeper on Russian territory.

Missile attacks were also reported in other cities across the country, including the capital kyiv, Sumy, Lutsk and Rivne. Russia has launched hundreds of drones and missiles against Ukraine in the last ten days, the most recent in Poltava, Kiev, Jarkov, Dnipro y Zaporizhia. This comes amid Ukraine’s recent incursion into the Russian region of Kursk.

Death toll from Poltava attack exceeds 50

Wednesday’s attack came just a day after two Russian ballistic missiles hit a military academy and a nearby hospital in Poltava, killing more than 50 people, the deadliest single attack this year.

News of the attack was first shared by Zelensky on Tuesday, citing preliminary reports. The missiles crashed in the heart of the main building of the Poltava Military Institute of Communicationcausing several floors to collapse. It didn’t take long for the smell of smoke and news of the deadly attack to spread through the central-eastern Ukrainian city.

“People found themselves under the rubble. Many were saved,” Zelensky said in a video posted on his Telegram channel. The governor of the region, Filip Proninannounced on Telegram that 219 people were injured and what others 20 people could be buried under the rubble. According to Pronin, ten apartment buildings were damaged.
