Russia could deploy new attack weapons in response to the installation planned by USA of hypersonic and longer range missiles in Germanydeclared on Sunday Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In his speech at a Naval Parade in St. Petersburgo, Putin promised “mirror measures” after the United States announced earlier this month that will begin deploying these weapons in 2026to affirm its commitment to the I’LL TAKE and European defense after the total invasion of Ukraine by Moscow in February 2022.

“If the United States implements these plans, we will consider ourselves free from the unilateral moratorium imposed previously about andl deployment of intermediate range attack weaponsincluding the increase in coastal forces capability of our Navy,” Putin said.

Both Washington and Moscow have signaled in recent weeks their willingness to deploy intermediate range ground weaponsbanned for decades under a Soviet-American treaty of 1987. The United States withdrew from the agreement in 2019, accusing Moscow of conducting missile tests that they raped him.

Tensions rise between Moscow and the West

The accusations, which Russia denied, occurred while Tensions increased between Moscow and the West behind the downing of a Malaysian passenger plane carrying 298 people over war-torn eastern Ukraine. Two Russians and a pro-Moscow Ukrainian were eventually convicted for their role in the attack.

Washington and Berlin said in a joint statement this month that American weapons to be placed in Germany would ultimately include SM-6 missiles, Tomahawk cruise missiles and hypersonic weapons in developmentincluding those with a significantly greater reach than the currently deployed in Europe.

Most Russian missile systems can carry conventional or nuclear warheads. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated last week that The Kremlin did not rule out new deployments of nuclear missiles in response to the US measure.
