Crime rates and security threats have decreased in Paris since the start of the Olympic Games, the French Interior Minister reported this Friday.

The first days of Olympic Games were marred by the chaos caused by the sabotage of France’s main high-speed rail network and the collapse of global online services. But French authorities say the criminality and the security threats they have reduced from the start of the event in Paris last week.

Gerald Darmanin, French Minister of the Interior, declared to the media that there have been 200 arrests, of which 180 corresponded to people who were transferred to prison. “We have had a 24% fewer robberies with violence in Paris and in neighboring Parisian suburban areas. 10% fewer car thefts and the Minor crimes overall decreased largely, probably due to the enormous increased police presence and the gendarmes in public areas,” the minister reported.

The Minister of the Interior added that there has been no organized plot of which the French Police are aware, although they have preventively detained individuals amid suspicions that they could act as lone actors.
