Hocker won the race in an Olympic record time of 3 minutes 27.65 seconds, moving from fifth to first place in the final 300 meters to beat his personal best by more than 3 seconds.
He led Kerr by 14 seconds, while Ingebrigsten, who set the pace in the first 1,200 meters, finished fourth, behind the American Yared Nuguse.
Gabby Thomas also won at full speed the women’s 200 meterswith a time of 21.83 seconds, thus adding a gold medal to the bronze he obtained in the Tokyo event three years ago.
