The Argentine Néstor LorenzoColombia’s coach, stated this Friday that his team is not a favorite to win the Copa Américaalthough he stated that they are working to be at the level of the great contenders for the title.
“We have many things to improve, we are still not like the candidates, favorites, or at the level of the countries that always won the Copa América. We want to be in that group, we have to go game by game, improving, correcting and growing,” he expressed Lorenzo at the press conference prior to Saturday’s friendly against Bolivia in the USA, the last one before the start of the tournament.
The strategist added: “The enthusiasm is genuine, because the team, I tell the boys: from within you are transmitting something that reaches the people, it is a satisfaction.”
Looking ahead to the tournament, Lorenzo stated that “there is a very even level in many positions”, which is why he will give minutes against Bolivia to players who did not play in the match that his team won 1-5 against the United States.
“With Bolivia it is the last match we have in this stage prior to the Copa América. It is an important match to continue consolidating ideas, to correct errors and give minutes to players who need to arrive in the best way for the initial match on June 24” , he added.
Colombia is part of Group D and will debut against Paraguay in a zone where it will then face Costa Rica and Brazil.
