The Paris Prosecutor’s Office has opened a national investigation saying the crimes could carry sentences of between 10 and 20 years in prison.
Several trains that transporting Olympic athletes were among those affected by the attacks on the French railway network this Friday. Trains in several parts of France are now running with delays which vary between one and two hours and it is estimated that More than 800,000 travelers have been affected by the attack.
“On the Atlantic coast we operate 250 trains a day. We had four trains with athletes and two of them were able to operate, one was canceled and another is underway. Therefore, the impact on the opening ceremony is very, very small,” says Franck Dubourdieu, director of the SNCF’s TGV Atlantic line.
“We have 30,000 kilometers of railway in France, so it is a very extensive network. It is absolutely impossible to control all the points. What we are currently doing are some specific tours organized by experts in very specific areas,” he adds.
French authorities condemned the attacks as “criminal actions“, although they said there were no signs of a direct link with the Games. The Paris Prosecutor’s Office has opened a national investigation saying the crimes could carry sentences of 10 to 20 years.
