Floods all over Sudan have forced the people displaced by the Sudanese civil war to relocate, which has added more suffering to already exhausted families. The civilians, who lived in a school compound in the eastern province of Kassala, woke up to find that the classrooms they were staying in had been flooded.

“Personal belongings and vehicles were hit by the fury of the water,” said Marwa Musa Mohammed, one of the evacuated women. UNHCR provided emergency tents and relocated families. The agency has made a list of critical issues. Among them are difficulties in accessing water and poor sanitation.

So far, at least 200 families have been relocated. More than 11,000 people have been affected by the floods and heavy rains that have hit the eastern state of Kassala in the last two weeks, according to UNHCR. Other critical weather events are expected in the coming days.

The civil war in Sudan and the collateral humanitarian crisis
