Roach certainly feels the weight difference between he and Tank won’t be a factor when they step into the ring on Dec. 14 in Houston. to fight for Davis’ WBA title on pay-per-view.
“The tank isn’t the biggest 135-pounder. Everyone he fought was almost bigger than him.” Roach said in an interview with Cigar Talk’s Naji Grampus.– “I think the only person smaller than him is Pitbull (Isaac Cruz), and that’s just the height. He’s also technically bigger than Tank.
“Tank is comfortable at 135, so I don’t blame him for fighting at that weight. But he’s not a big man at 35. I don’t understand why people think, ‘Oh, you raise a smaller child.’ I’m not that stunted. They’ll keep saying that, I fight at 130 because that’s where I campaign. That’s where I started my career. That’s where I advanced to the world title. My plan has always been to move up to 135 and win another championship. It happened a little earlier than usual.”
Roach (25-1-1, 10 KO) turned professional in 2014 and has been competing within the 130-pound weight limit since 2017. Before that, he tended to weigh around 131 or 132 pounds, except in a few pros. Roach’s first when he scaled 134, 133 and 137.5.
“When a boxer starts his career They don’t have to make 130 pounds because we’re not in the title race or nothing,” said the 29-year-old boxer from Washington, D.C. “The opponents I got.
