Champion Jai Opetaia and challenger David Nyika both weighed in at 199.5 pounds ahead of their IBF cruiserweight title fight on Wednesday.
Opetaia is 29 years old and a native of Australia’s Gold Coast. is fighting in his home country for the first time since July 2022, when he turned professional with a victory over Mairis Briedis. Wednesday’s fight at the Gold Coast Convention Center in Queensland will be his third title defense at received that night He briefly unbuckled his belt. Before getting the belt back last year
Nyika, 29, replaced Huseyin Cinkara as Opetaia’s opponent in December when an injury kept Cinkara out. Nyika won an Olympic bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
