Israel ordered a new evacuation of Khan Younis before a new attack on suspected Hamas targets. An attack in Deir al-Balah killed at least 30 people.
The Israeli army ordered the evacuation of a highly populated area of Khan Younis on Saturdayin the Gaza Stripalleging that it plans an operation against Hamas militants supposedly hiding among the civilian population.
The order is produced in response to rocket fire that Israel says came from the area. This is the second evacuation in a week in an area intended for Palestinians fleeing other parts of Gaza. Many Palestinians have been uprooted several times in search of safety during the war. IDF invited Palestinians to go to al-Mawasi humanitarian zone, but they reviewed their borders. Israel of has carried out several attacks during the week, after giving evacuation orders on Monday. According to the Ministry of Health, At least 70 people have died in Khan Yunis in recent days. The area is part of a 60-square-kilometer humanitarian zone where Israel has told Palestinians to take shelter for the duration of the war.
Much of the area is covered by tent fields who lack health and medical services and have limited access to help, according to the UN and humanitarian groups. Israel estimates that around 1.8 million Palestinians take refuge there. This represents more than half of the 2.3 million inhabitants that Gaza had before the war.
Attack on a school in Deir al-Balah: at least 20 dead
An Israeli attack against a school building where a field hospital had been installed also caused the death of at least 30 people in Deir al-Balah, further north of Khan Yunis. Among the victims were several children. According to Israeli funds, the building was used by Hamas as a weapons depot. Apparently, fighters from the Islamic movement were killed in the assault.
