Israel closes all border crossings with Jordan after deadly attack in Allenby

At the Allenby border crossing, between the West Bank and Jordan, three Israelis lost their lives in a shooting motivated as an attack related to the conflict in Gaza.

This shooting has raised tension in the region and has caused the immediate closure of land crossing points between Israel and Jordan. According to official Israeli sources, the attacker approached the Allenby crossing, known as the King Hussein Bridge, from the Jordanian side in a truck and opened fire on Israeli security forces.

In the ensuing shootout, the Israeli forces killed the attacker. The victims, three Israeli men in their fiftieswere pronounced dead at the scene by Magen David Adom emergency services.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly condemned the attack, linking it to the broader conflict with Iran and allied militant groups such as Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. As a security measure, Israel announced the closure of all its land crossings with Jordanincluding the passes near Beit Shean in the north and Eilat in the south.

This incident occurs in a moment of growing tension in the region. The West Bank has seen an increase in violence since the Hamas attack on October 7, which triggered the war in Gaza. Israel has carried out almost daily military operations in densely populated Palestinian residential areaswhile there has also been an increase in settler violence and Palestinian attacks against Israelis.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, an Israeli airstrike on the urban Jabaliya refugee camp claimed the lives of five peopleincluding women and children, as well as a senior Civil Defense official. This incident highlights the continuing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where More than 40,900 Palestinians have lost their lives since the start of the conflictaccording to the local Ministry of Health.

Although the diplomatic efforts of the United States, Qatar and Egyptto negotiate a ceasefire and the release of hostagesthe negotiations have faced repeated obstacles. The situation remains extremely volatile, with significant implications for regional stability and long-term peace prospects.
