Luis Fernando Tena, the coach of Guatemalawho played a friendly against Argentina this Friday, said that the Albiceleste is the favorite to win the Copa América that will begin next week in the United States.
“They are a very solid team, they know very well what they are playing. You can see that they are a family, they play with great intensity,” said the Mexican coach in a press conference, after his team lost 4-1 to the Argentine team in a match played on the outskirts of Washington.
“In addition,” he added, “it is a team with an optimal state of mind, that believes in itself, that is very strong, that people support it. I think it is the favorite today to win the Copa América.”
Guatemala took the lead with an own goal from Lisandro Martínez and resisted for much of the first half, but Argentina came back with a double from Lautaro Martínez and another from Lionel Messi.
Tena said that the friendly “was a very good training session for both teams.”
“I think it’s very useful for them in terms of America Cup. For us it was a great experience to play against the world champion,” he said.
Argentina will travel to Atlanta this Saturday to concentrate for its debut in the Copa América next Thursday against Canada.
