After the alarm expressed by the European People’s Partynow it is the turn of the European Commission to worry about the possible infiltrationof Russian and Belarusian spies in the Schengen area through Hungary.

EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson has asked Interior Minister Sándor Pintér to explain in detail how he intends to keep hostile intelligence agents away while the Hungarian government issues residence permits to Belarusian and Russian citizens: a facilitated work permit for foreign workers for a maximum period of two years.

András Rácz, EU foreign and security policy expert, says: “Since the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022, more than 500 agents Russian intelligence officers, or spies, working under diplomatic cover, have been expelled from European countries. Therefore, Moscow needs replacements. Therefore, allowing more Russians to enter Europe through Hungary could increase vulnerability.”

Ylva Johansson has already warned that if she does not receive reassuring answers, the European Commission will take measures against Hungary.
