The FIFA ranking says that Mexico is one of the best 20 teams in the world, but it has not beaten a top team since 2020, so that Ranking does not seem to be very reliable.

Mexico faces Uruguay tonight and in three days they will face Brazil. When these friendly matches for the Copa América end, El Tri will have barely faced five high-level rivals in the Jaime Lozano era, but can they win their first match against teams of this rank?

Since the ‘Jimmy’ era began just a year ago, Mexico has faced three teams that, like El Tri, are in the top-20 of the FIFA Ranking, but the most they have done is draw:

Germany

·       16° del Ranking FIFA

· Draw 2-2

· Friendly, October 2023

Colombia

·       12° del Ranking FIFA

· Defeat 3-2

· Friendly, December 2023

USA

·       11° del Ranking FIFA

· 2-0 defeat

· Nations League, March 2024

Uruguay

·       15° del Ranking FIFA

· For playing

· Friendly, June 2024

Brazil

·       5° del Ranking FIFA

· For playing

· Friendly, June 2024

The last time Mexico beat a highly regarded team was in October 2020, when the team led by Gerardo Martino beat the Netherlands 1-0 at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam. It was a tremendous victory that occurred almost four years ago, but few expected that this would be the last victory against a powerful team; In reality, no one imagined that soon the team would go into crisis.

It will be June 8 when Lozano’s team faces a top-flight team for the first time, but if they have not been able to against rivals who are supposed to be at their level, how will they fare against Brazil?

For now, the next rival is Uruguay and if it is difficult in itself, face it with an alternate team It’s almost self-destructive.
