Pokrovsk in danger. Hundreds of the city’s inhabitants are evacuated every day while forces from Moscow, less than 10 kilometers away, continue to advance slowly.
Hundreds of people flee the eastern city of Pokrovsk as Russian forces slowly advance towards it. The city had a population of 60,000 inhabitants before the war and is an important communications hub by road and rail, making it a great strategic award if it can be taken.
It is still not clear whether the Russian army intends to force his way through the city, which would probably cause civilian casualties, or if he intends to surround it, as he did in the bloody battles to capture the cities of Bajmut y Avdiivka.
If Pokrovsk falls, defeat would endanger the defenses of Ukraine and would bring Russia closer to its stated goal of capturing the Donetsk region, where it is located.
Los russian soldiers are found now less than 10 kilometers away and, it seems, they are moving forward slowly. Before the war, the city had about 6,000 inhabitants.
Unlike Pokrovsk, where Ukrainian Forces have built extensive fortificationsother parts of the Donetsk region still under Ukrainian control are less protected and could be significantly more vulnerable to Russian attack if Pokrovsk falls.
