Shakan Pitters will challenge European light heavyweight champion Daniel dos Santos on February 7 at the Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield, England.
The 35-year-old is a necessary challenger to France’s dos Santos, British and Commonwealth super bantamweight champion Tysie Gallagher. Defending her title against Ebony Jones on the undercard.
“(It) will be the year I cement myself at the top of the light heavyweight division. It starts in February with the European Championships against Daniel dos Santos,” Pitters said. “He is strong, experienced and has a military background. So you know he’s ready for war.
“To beat him on February 7 and take his title. It will be a great announcement and an important step towards competing for the world title.”
Dos Santos, 34, won the vacant title with a victory over Thomas Fore in July.
“Shakan Pitters is a fighter we believe has the potential to go all the way,” said promoter Izzy Asif of GBM. “He faces a very difficult test here against European light heavyweight champion Dania. Dos Santos, and if he can get through this It will speak to his level and his ability to achieve his dream of winning a world championship.”
