The visit of EU High Representative Josep Borrell to Egypt is part of the EU’s engagement mission aimed at preventing further regional escalation in the Middle East.
The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Policy, Joseph Borrellhas arrived in Egypt to speak with President El-Sisi about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The two leaders will discuss the EU’s role in alleviating human suffering caused by the war between Israel and Hamasas well as mediation efforts for a ceasefire by Egypt, the United States and Qatar.
“Today the most urgent thing is to get these ambulances to enter or receive the injured,” Borrell said. “And that is why the European Union is willing to offer its logistical capabilities in order to reopen these borders and have European personnel deployed to the other side of this border so that it is open,” he added.
Borrell will also travel to Lebanon
The head of European diplomacy spoke from the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing with Gaza, where he had planned launch an EU-funded project to help the children of Gaza and their caregivers in Egypt.
Borrell’s visit is part of the EU’s engagement mission aimed at preventing further regional escalation. The diplomat too will travel to Lebanon later this week to talk about the country’s stability and his role in the conflict broader in the Middle East.
