The Euro Cup once again left a worrying scenarioafter Barnabás Varga had to be carried off on a stretcher in the match between Scotland and Hungary, after colliding with goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
The incident required immediate medical assistance and it was feared that it was a serious injury, as UEFA opted to cover the player while he was lying on the grass, as well as during the journey to the ambulance.
The Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ for its acronym in Hungarian) announced that the forward underwent surgery:
“Barnabás Varga underwent successful surgery on Monday afternoon at the Klinikum Stuttgart. According to the institution’s doctors specializing in facial injuries, the intervention had no complications, so the Ferencvárosi Torna Club attacker can leave the hospital on Wednesday.”
Hungary remains in contention and hopes to qualify for the round of 16 as one of the best four third places.
