The initiative is part of a effort to reduce waste and contribute to the commitment of the Organizing Committee of the 2024 Games with The sustainability.
“Since the beginning of the Olympic Gamesfor this warehouse, here in Gennevilliers, we have received around 15 tons of food. In total, together with the other warehouse in Paris, we have received about 30 tons,” declares Nicolas Dubois Warehouse manager at the Gennevilliers Food Bank.
Part of what was collected by food Bank took to one grocery from Epinay-sur-Seine, a suburb north of Paris, which sells food at very discounted prices.
“We go to this place because it helps us a lot, it helps us enormously. For us, we don’t make much money, for a family that is suffering financially… We come here to buy food for the month. Instead of shopping at an expensive store, we buy cheaper food here,” says Jeanne Musaga, a customer at the store that sells low-priced food.
In addition to helping those most in need, the organizers also hope that the food donationsserve as an example for other Olympic Games and major sporting events.
