An inclusive camp carries out activities of all kinds in this privileged natural space: from aquatic activities to discos for everyone.
Las people with reduced mobility those who need to move around in a wheelchair can also enjoy the summeror like any other. Sometimes the only thing they need to enjoy water activities It’s something as simple as a moving ramp, a giant swimming pool, and a little help.
All of this is offered in many summer camps or tourist destinations. One of those that has been modernized in this sense is Balaton, the famous lake in Hungary, accessible to all users, also for those who access it in a wheelchair.
An inclusive camp
There are spaces dedicated specifically to these people, such as the Maltese Charity Service which, after a four-year hiatus, this summer has returned to its youth camp five days totally inclusive.
In this edition, 105 young people with physical disabilities have been able participate and enjoy a wide variety of activities. Each of them has been accompanied at all times by a monitor who has become their best ally.
“For us, Lake Balaton is the place we always come to. There are bathing programs, At this time they also go sailing. Many people bathe in the lake for the first time in their lives,” explains AlPAR Lázár, one of the organizers.
Users were also able to enjoy a sports exhibition with paradesports athletes. Or also an amusement park with mechanical bulls, games of skill and, of course, target shooting.
“Anyone can make friends”
And the disabled young people were able to play ball or do car racing with the mind thanks to new technologies. It is a most innovative camp. For Richard, this is his sixth year. He says the most important thing is that there are no barriers and anyone can make friends here.
“The best thing is that here disabled and non-disabled people can experience different things together,” he explains. Young people can even party together. During the day, they sing hits aboard a beautiful sailboat and, at night, they can have a beer or two during the concerts.
It is quite an experience and a example of inclusion for many other countries in Europe. During these summer days, Lake Balaton becomes a space without barriers and suitable for everyone.
