Emergency services are working to put out the flames, which have also reached Portugal.
Almost 400 hectares have been burned by a forest fire in Galiciain northwest Spain near Portugal. The authorities of the Spanish town have mobilized 30 firefighters, six planes and seven helicopters to fight the fire in the towns of Pontevedra and Ourense.
“The Xunta de Galicia keeps situation 2 active as a preventive measure in the Crecente fire near the traffic lights of the population centers of San Colmede and Reinaldos (Pontevedra)”, said the regional government of Galicia in X.
At least 25 residents were evacuated in one of the nearby towns to the border between Spain and Portugal. The flames have also affected the Baixa Limia-Serra do Xurés Natural Park on both sides of the border.
In the last five years, the forest fires in Spain and Portugal have devastated almost one million hectares of land.
