More than 3,000 people have been evacuated in the last 24 hours of the areas of the Russian western Kursk region affected by the ongoing incursion of the Ukrainian army. The Russian Emergencies Ministry declared on Saturday that more than 10,000 local residents remained in temporary accommodation centers in other parts of the country.
The raid, which Russian authorities say has led to the evacuation of more than 120,000 civilianshas shocked many inhabitants of the Kursk province, bordering Ukraine.
“No one expected this kind of conflict to be even possible. in the Kursk region,” said Yan Furtsev, a member of the local opposition party, Yabloko. “That’s why there is so much confusion and panic, because citizens are arriving (from the front areas) and they are scared, very scared.”
