Citizens’ votes in European elections are usually accompanied by the expectation that something can change and that this change can be for the better.
The vote of Europeans is accompanied by hope for economic improvements, fear of the housing crisis and desires for stability.
For Boyd Wagneranalyst Euronews Poll Center, the data show that among the main issues that concern Europeans is the economy, but also security issues. The expectations are to achieve more stability: “The number one problem would be the economy, it would be things like the purchasing power and the inflation. Secondly, I think what is very common in all countries is immigration. “It’s still an important issue.”
Fear of shortages and lack of affordable housing
Las economic concerns seem to re-emerge in the European Union. But this time climate change or the available housing crisis joins in. We ask some questions in the streets of Brussels on what issues would be a priority the day after the elections. These have been the answers.
“If you want to do something about the climate, you have to pay, so economics are important.”
“For me it is important that we achieve climate neutrality as a European Union and that we take the path towards that. For us to get there, for us to start and for it to remain socially acceptable, for us to ensure that this does not mean that only rich can afford it and poor become poorer”
“Economic stability – all our economies are very interconnected and a globalist world. And we also have local problems in Ireland. You know, it’s still a massive real estate crisis. Cost of living crisis. And, you know, I don’t think politicians are taking these issues seriously, especially politicians in the European Parliament.”
Competitiveness and daily life
Among some politicians the debate is more about competitiveness, but for European citizens it is above all about their daily lives. They are two sides of the same coin. And well present the progressive increase in expenses of Defending which seems to be the priority in some decision centers in Brussels.
The analyst at the Center for the Study of European Policies in Brussels, Sophia Russack explains that “If politicians care about the competitivenessit is about the budgets of the States and the budget of the States then, of course, necessarily also translates into money from the people. So, of course, there is now a strong connection when it comes to the defending. “Then we see that people worry about that too, but it depends a lot on where they live.”
Expectations differ from country to country, but all voters seek the perspective of a gift and a future better than the one that is questioned today.
