Keir Starmer meets his new Cabinet for the first time in Downing Street

The new UK Executive has 11 female ministers, which is a record in the country.

The new UK Cabinet ministers have met with the new prime minister, Keir Starmer, at 10 Downing Street this Tuesday. Starmer on Saturday named a Cabinet of Labor Party lawmakers and some outside experts as he tries to tackle priorities including boosting a sluggish economy, building more housing and fixing the healthcare system.

Labor 14 years have passed in the oppositionso few have held government positions before.

Senior ministers include Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, and the Minister of the Interior, Yvette Cooper. John Healey assumes the defense portfolio and Wes Streeting is in charge of Health.

Record number of women

The Starmer Government has a record number of women: 11 of 25 ministers. Almost all members attended public schools, another record that represents a marked difference with conservative ministers who have historically studied in private schools.
