Yemeni rebels claimed responsibility for four attacks on ships traveling through the Red Sea, but also the Mediterranean. This is not the first time the Houthis have attacked ships allegedly linked to Israel leaving the coast of Yemen.
The spokesperson of the HouthisYahya Sare’e, claimed responsibility for four attacks on western ships in the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea on Friday.
In a joint operation with the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, Sare’e said, The oil tanker Waler was attacked with drones in the Mediterranean. The ship was heading to the port of Haifa, Israel, violating the blockade of access to the ports of “occupied Palestine.” The Houthis had already attacked ships in the Mediterranean last month.
Also in the Mediterranean, The Johannes Maersk was attacked with a cruise missile. According to the Houthisthe Maersk company is “one of the main financiers of the Zionists.”
In the Red Sea, the Ioanni ships was attacked, according to Yemeni rebels, with remotely piloted boats, while The American ship Delonix was attacked by a series of ballistic missilesshocking him.
The news was also confirmed by the UK Maritime Trading Agency (UKMTO).. The ship did not suffer any major damage and continued its journey north. The other attacks have not been confirmed, but the Houthis have exaggerated their claims on several occasions in the past.
The Houthis claim their attacks target ships linked to Israel, the United States or the United Kingdom. However, many of the ships attacked have little or no connection to the war between Israel and Hamasincluding some heading to Iran.
US destroys Houthi drones
The US Central Command (Centcom) has also not confirmed the Houthi attacks, but has said that its forces have destroyed seven Houthi drones (UAVs) and a ground control station vehicle in areas of Yemen.
