An explosion in the technology park of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the New University of Lisbon, in Caparica, in Almada, Setúbal district, caused the death of one person, Civil Protection reported.
An explosion in the campus of the Nova University of Lisbon, in Caparica, in the district of Setúbal, it has caused one death and two injuries, one of them in serious condition.
According to Civil Protection websitethe explosion occurred around 12:45 p.m. in the technology park of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Nova University of Lisbon, at the union of the parishes of Caparica and Trafaria.
The fatal victim is a 25-year-old young man who entered cardiorespiratory arrest and could not be revived by members of the emergency services.
One injured in serious condition
One of the injured remains serious. Apparently his case is not directly related to the explosion, but he may have suffered some kind of sudden illness. The health assistants who went to the scene have chosen to transfer him to the García de Orta hospital, where he has been admitted.
They went to the scene of the incident eight emergency services vehicles and rescue and 20 workers from the Trafaria Volunteer Fire Department, the National Institute of Medical Emergencies and the Republican National Guard. A team of specialists in detecting, neutralizing and deactivating explosive devices has also attended.
According to several Portuguese media outlets, the explosion is believed to have taken place in a container that performs pressure tests of aerospace material in a company located on the university campus. This information has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
