GSMA MWC Shanghai 2024 is back this week with a focus on AI, the future of 5G and driving industry collaboration to improve the technology.
Technology companies from around the world gathered this week in Shanghai, China, for the GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) to present the latest news in mobile technologyfocusing this year on artificial intelligence, the future of 5G and collaboration in the sector.
“MWC has something for everyone, whether it’s consumer electronics with integrated AI, augmented reality glasses or the latest AI solutions“said John Hoffman, CEO of GSMA.
Last year’s event attracted almost 37,000 people from 115 countries and territories, including policy makers and business leaders from the mobile ecosystem and other sectors. This year’s is expected to attract greater numbers of visitors as global economies recover from the pandemic and travel again.
The best smartphone in Asia
Honor is one of the companies present at the event with which ‘Euronews’ has spoken about advances in artificial intelligence. On Magic V2 device won the “best smartphone in Asia” award Thursday at the fair.
George Zhao, CEO of the global technology company, spoke to ‘Euronews’ following the announcement and explained how its human-centric AI, ‘AI Defocus Eye Protection’ and ‘AI Deepfake Detection’, have helped the company become one of the most advanced.
“Taking eye protection from prevention to creating technology that can lead to relief for consumers, Honor’s ‘AI Defocus Eye Protection’ has been shown to decrease users’ transient myopia by 13 degrees on average after reading for 25 minutes, with some users experiencing a maximum reduction of 75 degrees“
Regarding mitigating the risks of so-called ‘deepfakes’, Zhao explained how the technology company has introduced the detection of ‘deepfakes’ through AI. “To help prevent fraud and detect digitally manipulated content, ‘AI Deepfake Detection’ examines information frame by frame, such as eye contact, lighting, image clarity and video playback, to identify errors that are imperceptible for the human eye.”
In parallel with the opening of MWC Shanghai, the GSMA published a call for collaboration between governments and industry to support the full development of 6 GHz for mobile“in order to guarantee the delivery of a roadmap of spectrum to mobile operators and set clear timelines for equipment and phones to be ready.”
The GSMA statement has been signed by 36 companies from around the worldbetween operators and suppliers of equipment and auxiliary integrated circuit.
