Twelve films are competing for the coveted Crystal Globe, the winner of which will be announced next Saturday at the closing ceremony.
The 58th edition of Karlovy Vary International Film Festivalin the Czech Republic, is already underway.
Two of the main guests, Viggo Mortensen y Geoffrey Rusharrived on Thursday night in the city that is known worldwide for being a prominent ‘spa resort‘. The actors were welcomed by the president of the festival, Jiří Bartoška, in front of the Hotel Pupp.
Mortensen, known for playing the role of Aragorn in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ saga, was warmly received by film fans on the festival’s red carpet, shortly before being awarded the Festival President’s Award. With this award, the organizers intend to recognize “an exemplary career in the world of cinema.”
In his acceptance speech, the actor stated that the cinematic event“holds a special place” in his heart and described the Karlovy Vary event as a “very important celebration of cinema.”
A nod to Ukraine

The Ukrainian director received the praise of the Czech presidentPetr Pavel, who is also a retired Army general and former president of the NATO Military Committee.
“This footage is incredibly contemporary and, through its raw authenticity, powerfully conveys to viewers the intense experiences and emotions that the soldiers are enduring,” declared Czech President Petr Pavel.
Some of the soldiers who appear in the documentary have died in the war between Russia and Ukraine. The public attending the projection paid a special tribute to his memory.
