There is no option other than win over the far right. It is the message that Emmanuel Macron and his team reiterated this Wednesday, in a press conference, just three days after announcing the dissolution of the National Assembly to summon elections.

In an event attended by the Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, and some of the most important members of the Government, Macron announced that, as president, will not campaignand that he also does not intend to have a debate with Marine Le Pen.

“I do not intend to hand over the keys of power to the extreme right,” said Macron, who ruled out resigning if Le Pen take away the mandate in the 2027 presidential election.

He accused Le Pen’s far-right of being “the embodiment of no” in its economic proposals, but without offering concrete measures. Even in one of the favorite topics of the extreme right, insecurity, “they don’t have a miracle answer,” he reiterated.

He also declared that the alliance proposed by Ciotti with the extreme right is “a pact with the devil” that “turns its back on the heritage of General (Charles) De Gaulle, Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy“, three prominent conservative presidents.

For all this, he proposed his liberal alliance as the only alternative “with a coherent, realistic and future-oriented program”, for the application of which he insisted on opening up to pacts with moderate forces (conservatives, socialists and environmentalists).

“We are not perfect, we have not done everything well, but we have had results,” said Macron, who has presided over the country since 2017 and whose second presidential term expires in 2027.

A risky move

The advance appointmentbetween June 30 and July 7 ,that the French have with democracy is a consequence of the crushing defeat suffered by the presidential party at the hands of Marine Le Pen’s National Rally in the European elections.

The decision responds, according to Macron, to an attempt to stop the “rise of nationalists and demagogues”, although some analysts They see the measure as a risky move by the probability that the extreme right will lead France for the first time since World War II.

Others even call the decision Machiavellian in view of the French president’s possible strategy of allowing the National Group Government to demonstrate its deficiencies and thus be able to regain the presidency in 2027.

As Le Pen has already advancedthe 28-year-old Jordan Bardellavery popular among far-right youth, would be named prime minister in the event of a national victory.
