Julian Nagelsmann stated that they will go out to win the match against Switzerland regardless of whether that could lead them to face Spain in the quarterfinals of the Euro Cup if they overcome the round of 16 match.

“I think it is difficult to tell your team: ‘We want to lose tomorrow’. Normally you play a football match to win it and we want to win tomorrow’s match,” he said when asked if he would prefer to avoid a possible confrontation with Spain in case of for Germany to be first in the group.

“We can’t predict exactly who the opponent will be in the knockout phase. So it’s about getting more rhythm, gaining more confidence in ourselves to win the next game and being prepared to win the next ones,” he said.

Looking ahead to this Sunday’s match, Nagelsmann stressed that, for the moment, he had no plans to change the team and that he was not going to take into account the risk of yellow cards, since he fully trusts his players: “If a player ends up sanctioned, we will send someone else.

In addition, he assured that Switzerland was the most important rival they had in the group in terms of individual quality, while praising the work of their coach: “It’s going to be a complicated match, but we definitely want to win.”
