Guglielmo Zepeda says he wants to “put on a show” to show the world he deserves a title shot next when he faces Tevin Farmer this Saturday, November 16. The farmer is thrown to the young wolf Zepeda for him in the last obstacle before. fight for a world title on February 22.
The 34-year-old farmer is the former IBF super featherweight champion and looked good in his losing effort against Raymond Muratalla on July 13. He made the undefeated Muratalla work hard for a 10 round decision. If Farmer can do the same to Zepeda, he could derail his plans for a world title fight.
Zepeda needs to impress
The undefeated Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs) needs an impressive win over Farmer (33-6-1, 8 KOs) in their Latino Night fight to put himself in position to challenge Shakur Stevenson for his WBC lightweight title next.
In a mistake on the part of Golden Boy Promotions, they chose the Zepeda-Farmer fight on the undercard over two other fighters that the fans showed zero interest in.
The only fights that seem to have caught the interest of fans from the Latino Night card are these two:
- William Zepeda vs. Tevin Farmer
- Oscar Duarte vs. Botirzhon Akhmedov
The rest of the fights on Saturday night’s card received little attention from fans, and for good reason. I’m not the type the fans want to see.
Nobody wants to see the awful main event between Gilberto Ramirez and Chris Billiam-Smith or the co-feature involving former unified welterweight champion Jose Ramirez fighting Arnold Barboza Jr. Golden Boy should put the Zepeda vs. Farmer fight in the main event and put the Duarte vs. Akhmedov fight as the co-feature. The rest of the fights are meaningless compared to those two.
Zepeda-Farmer should be the main event
“William Zepeda is in for an interesting fight against former world titleholder Tevin Farmer, but that’s not the co-main event yet,” Chris Mannix told Golden Boy. “There’s a lot at stake for William Zepeda against Shakur Stevenson potentially on the line.”
“I think they made a mistake because Golden Boy wants to make sure he’s ready. So, I think Golden Boy is doing the right thing, knowing he has to fight Shakur,” Tevin Farmer said. “Anyone other than me, they won’t do him justice.
“If he gets past me, which he won’t, but if he does, he knows he’s ready. 100%, he’s not going to do it to Shakur.
“We’re focused on this fight. We know we have a potential title fight next,” Zepeda said. “We’re ready to put on a show to show we deserve a title shot.”
