William Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs) admits he can’t escape against Tevin Farmer on Saturday, November 16 at Latin Night at the Venue in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Zepeda, 28, knows Farmer (33-6-1, 8 KOs) is using it as a stepping stone to a new start.
This is a second chance for former IBF super featherweight champion Farmer, 34, who is coming off a loss to Raymond Muratalla. If Farmer can win this fight, he will be a possible opponent for WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.
The farmer is not neglected
“All the divisions are difficult, but this one in particular has a little bit of everything. It’s also something that motivates me and wakes me up early every day to train hard,” said William Zepeda to DAZN Boxing about the light division is a good one.
The lightweight division is a stacked one with ten good fighters, and more moving around all the time. That’s where the money is for the fighters.
“It’s an important challenge, where it’s about proving who William Zepeda is,” Zepeda said about his fight against Tevin Farmer. “We know Tevin Farmer’s skills and experience. We know he’s a strong competitor, even if he hasn’t been very active.
“He knows that this is also a great opportunity for him. A victory against William Zepeda could open the doors for him. That’s what our rivals see: a chance to open the doors, but we have to rise to the occasion to win and keep moving forward,” Zepeda said.
Farmer hopes to defeat Zepeda and set himself up for a world title fight against Shakur on February 22 in Riyadh. This would be a big payday for Farmer if he could take Zepeda’s place as the challenger for Shakur’s opponent.
Zepeda wants Tank or Shakur
“We just need the champions to say yes, to agree to fight the #1 contender. We have shown that we are capable of fighting for a world championship. Now, we just need the fight to be confirmed and the champions to accept it,” Zepeda said.
Shakur has already said yes to a fight against Zepeda. This fight will be available for him next February in Riyadh if he wants. Of course, if Zepeda can get a title shot against Tank Davis, he will gladly accept it.
“We’re excited for the chance. I know the door is opening for me, and we’re going to take advantage of it. I think it’s about being given the opportunity to fight for a world title. A really good fight against someone like and Shakur Stevenson or against Gervonta, that shows what we’re made of,” Zepeda said.
It appears that Zepeda is hoping to possibly get a title shot against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis rather than just WBC champion Shakur Stevenson. He knows that the money he can make fighting Tank will be considerably more than fighting Shakur.
