Commentator Steve Bunce believes the reason Tyson Fury fled the ring immediately after the scores were announced in his loss to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk last Saturday was because Daniel Dubois entered the ring.
An embarrassing show
Bunce feels that when Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) saw IBF heavyweight champion Dubois enter the ring to call Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs), he didn’t stop to look. That would have put Fury in an uncomfortable position and made him look bad.
It is not clear who decided to allow Dubois to enter the ring. Whatever it was, they obviously did not consider how to make the proud appearance of the ex-WBC champion Fury.
The higher-up who made the call to let Dubois in the ring may have overlooked how he would have put the Napoleonic fury in a humiliating position, being ignored as wood. The emperor was reduced to a secondary person with that move.
It shouldn’t have happened because there were other ways to set up a Usyk vs. Dubois fight without Daniel entering the ring to call him out while Fury was still present.
The whole thing seemed like an embarrassing circus. Dubois did not seem comfortable calling Usyk, and was told to do so. He seemed to know it wasn’t right and he seemed shy.
Dubois’ disrespectful move
“Dubois was obviously in the ring trying to make a fight, but it was a bit disrespectful. First of all, to Tyson Fury. Second, to Oleksandr Usyk, and thirdly to Joseph Parker, who is going to fight in February,” he said Carl Frampton at TNT Sports BoxingThey talk about the circus atmosphere immediately after the rematch of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury, where Daniel Dubois allowed to enter the ring.
“I didn’t like that. I understand why he did it, but it wasn’t my cup of tea,” Frampton said.
“I’m sure that’s why Fury left,” said commentator Steve Bunce, giving his opinion on why he believes Tyson Fury ran out of the ring immediately after the fight. “You’re in the ring, your Tyson Fury. You’ve been the king of the world for a long time. You’re in the ring. The man who just beat (Usyk) really tight on points is here.
“You’re standing in the ring. You’re not there for anything other than to do an interview, and all of a sudden, you see Dubois come in, go stage left, and get right into a fight. If we can get another angle of the camera, I bet Tyson Fury leaves at some point during that first thing. That’s how it works,” Bunce said.
“I know it’s 2-0, but it was so tight and so controversial. There’s a trilogy on the table. I think they have a third fight,” said Bunce who wanted a trilogy between Fury and Usyk next. “It’s still a massive fight ahead of AJ. Have a third fight (with Oleksandr). He won’t be fired. The AJ fight is still here. I think Fury is right when he says: “The AJ fight will be here, no matter when it happens Bunce said.
Fury-Usyk wasn’t a controversial fight, unless you’re a Fury fan. People did not see any of these matches as controversial. The only doubt about the former was the referee giving Fury an eight count in the ninth round when he was very injured.
There is almost no chance of a trilogy match between Usyk and Fury happening after that because it is too risky for Tyson. He and his promoters will not want to take the chance that he will be beaten a third time by Usyk and ruin the lucrative match with Anthony Joshua. Also, Turki Alalshikh said after the fight that he wants to make a match between Joshua and Fury next. He said nothing about the creation of the trilogy.
