Is Anthony Joshua finished at the elite level after his knockout loss against Daniel Dubois?
For Anthony Joshua the recent loss against Dubois is a big setback. Joshua absorbed a lot of punishment in that one, and it was a pretty one-sided fight from start to finish. Dubois set the tone early, performed brilliantly, and beat him in dominant fashion, dropping him 4 times along the way, the last of which earned Dubois the spectacular KO victory.
This is now the 4th professional loss that Joshua has suffered in his professional career, and this was by far the most brutal of the bunch. His first loss was a knockout against Andy Ruiz Jr, and his second and third losses both came against reigning heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk. The fight against Dubois provided AJ with the opportunity to become only the fourth boxer in history to become a three-time heavyweight champion, but that of course did not happen. Instead, AJ’s entire career trajectory was greatly disrupted after being stopped by a man he was expected to beat.
Where does Anthony Joshua go from here? It is a very difficult question to answer. Since his first loss against Ruiz, the big questions surrounding Joshua have always centered around his mental state, especially his ability to adapt and persevere and overcome adversity in the midst of a brutal and taxing battle. These questions have been constant since then, as Joshua hasn’t been the same fighter he was before the Ruiz loss, where he now usually seems less inclined (or unable) to dig deep whenever things go wrong. not.
