Teofimo Lopez says Gervonta Davis needs to “leave your pride” for him to take a fight against him and other fighters. Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) feels Gervonta’s ego is holding him back from getting the big fights against him and others in the sport.
Teo sounds like an in-demand star that Tank Davis is missing because he’s been on a career break since his loss to George Kambosos Jr. in 2021. Lopez’s career is about to die out after his recently signed three-fight deal with Turki Al-Sheikh expires in early 2026.
Teofimo heads to the 147lb division in October 2025 to face IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. After he probably loses, he will probably stay there to face the loser of the rematch Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia 2 in February 2026.
WBO welterweight champion Teofomo can project his shortcomings on Tank (30-0, 28 KOs, because he made a mess of his career by saying no to fights against Subriel Matias and preventing bouts against George Kambosos Jr and Devin Haney.
“He just needs to leave his pride and ego. Just play business, brother,” said Teofimo Lopez Fight Hub TV about whether Gervonta Davis can fight him and other fighters at 140. “I really want to fight us, that’s how we can make it happen. We all want to fight each other.”
List of Tank Must-Fights
Ryan Garcia
Devin Haney
Vasily Lomachenko
Teofimo and Shakur Stevenson are not talented or popular enough to make it into the prestigious list of Gervonta fighters who have a chance to fight. If Teo wasn’t washed up and destroyed his career by returning fights, he could potentially have a fight with Tank. It’s too late now, though.
Al-Sheikh’s game on Lopez
- Richardson Hitchins: IBF and WBO light welterweight unification match, possible for April.
- Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis: October fight
- Winner or loser of Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia rematch. Teofimo could be fighting one of them in February 2026.
