Shakur Stevenson says he would like to talk to Gervonta Davis on the phone to try to convince him to fight without promoters involved.
Tank might think it’s scary if Shakur called him. It could look like stalker behavior and be more seated and change his phone number.
The contempt of the tank
Stevenson likes to try to arrange a fight like Terence Crawford did with Errol Spence in 2023. However, Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) does not think that Gervonta will go for this idea because he has “some s* ** against me.”
The truth is, Tank doesn’t like runners, and Shakur doesn’t belong in this era. His old fashioned and archaic Mayweather style is from a bygone era.
It could be that Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) is defeated by Shakur’s desperate obsession with him, bringing up his name in interviews, chasing him to promote his fights, and being a no-fun fighter. Davis would be the attraction in a fight between them, and Shakur would just be there as the cartoon workshop.
If Shakur could build his own name by beating quality fighters and stay in the pocket to trade instead of running, he wouldn’t need to ask Gervonta for a fight. Indulging in repeated fights to be bored makes Shakur one of the lowest echelons of the castes as far as boxing is concerned. He is unworthy to be in the presence of King Tank.

“I said, ‘Let’s fight.’ What else do you want me to do?” Shakur Stevenson told Shawn Porter YouTube channel about his request to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis for a fight. “When I went and did this with Devin, he was chasing me. Now, they’re going to do the same kind of thing with Tank, and they’re going to say, ‘He’s chasing me.’ He’s jealous.”
“We are in a new generation. These people today, they had all these narratives. I said: ‘Let’s fight.’ I said: ‘Send the contract, and we can do it.’ to say nothing.
“I’m not going to act like I’m the A side, and I deserve 50-50 (for the Tank fight). Bro, let’s negotiate and see where it goes from there. I know I’m the B side, but let’s fight,” Shakur said.
The king is the shortcut
Stevenson sounds obtuse, thinking that all he has to do is say “Let’s fight”, to take a fight against Gervonta. That’s not how it’s done. He has to fight the opposition better, stop running, look good, and stop the fans from booing him 24/7. If all the contenders had to do is to say “Let’s fight”, to have the opportunity to meet with the King, everyone would have it. It is not so.
If Shakur wants to take a shortcut for a fight against Gervonta, he needs to do something brave, like in the days of the Knights and King Arthur. He should move up to 154 and beat Bakhram Murtazaliev or Vergil Ortiz Jr. If Stevenson does that, his popularity will shoot through the roof, and he would have no problem getting a fight against Tank.

“I think it is,” Shakur said, reacting to being told that he and Gervonta are the two biggest names, and it’s the biggest fight. “Besides Terence and Canelo, besides that, me and Tank are the biggest fight. It’s not about me. I’m not the A side. I’ve accepted that I’m the B side.
“That was the way it went with Terence and Errol,” Stevenson said of Terence Crawford and Errol Spence talking on the phone one-on-one, without the promoters, to agree to fight. “It was a great way. I’m serious about it, but the guy (Tank Davis) has some shit against me.
“Something about me. I’d be willing to do that. Negotiate, talk, sit with each other. I’d be willing to do that, me. It wouldn’t happen, though. I’m open. It would never happen. It won’t happen because of him ” Shakur said Gervonta didn’t want to talk to him.
“Yeah, sure,” Shakur said when asked if he wants the Tank fight “One million percent.” “Me and Tank, this is the fire. It’s the biggest fight in boxing. It’s the fight that will pay me a lot. He paid a lot. He’s going to do more with me than anybody else. My focus is Tank. Me and Tank we’re going to fight,” Shakur said when asked if he was interested in fighting his good friend, Keyshawn Davis.
